The Vision

LSEP's overarching vision is to create the right economic conditions to improve the quality of people's lives and the environment within which we live.

This would give everybody the opportunity to actively contribute to, and benefit from, economic growth and prosperity. We want to see Leicester and Leicestershire as a great place in which to live and work and one which people want to come to.

LSEP is contributing to the East Midlands' regional aim of making the area one of Europe's Top 20 regions by 2010. We will help to achieve this by supporting more competitive businesses and increasing wealth, through which we aspire to achieve economic growth that can:

• Help to reduce present inequalities between differing parts of Leicester and Leicestershire
• Improve the quality of our built and rural environment
• Create economic advantage using the sub-region's great diversity

We want to achieve more sustainable development for present and future generations, which achieves the right balance between economic, social and environmental management. In this vision we cannot detach ourselves from the world scene and the effects of globalization, whilst it is also a focus of national and regional attention.

Our vision will build upon the strengths and respond to the weaknesses of Leicester Shire. It will further complement the regional vision with its focus on people and skills, enterprise and innovation, land and buildings and their linkage in achieving more sustainable and equitable communities.
