Stronger Trade Links with Malaysia

The Malaysian Industrial Development Authority has identified Leicestershire as a potential area in the Midlands to develop joint trade and investment opportunities.

A recent event organised by the Leicester Shire Economic Partnership at the Belmont Hotel Leicester, was attended by the Lord Mayor of Leicester and seven senior officials representing various organisations from Malaysia. A number of Leicestershire companies who already trade with Malaysia also attended, along with local companies who are looking for trade and investment opportunities.

At the event there were presentations from the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority and the Leicester Shire Economic Partnership.

Rick Moore, Chairman of Leicester Shire Economic Partnership said, "we are pleased that Malaysia has chosen Leicester and Leicestershire as an important base in the midlands to develop further links. It signifies the increased awareness of this sub-region to the international markets, and continues to build on the work with have been doing with growing economies"

Kishor Tailor, Chief Executive, LSEP said, "the objectives are to capitalise on Malaysia’s potential economic growth by promoting Leicester and Leicestershire as a place for opportunities and investment and trade. A number of local companies are already trading with Malaysia, and we see the opportunities for further growth between the two areas"
