Leicestershire Business Awards 2009
Guarantee your place at the business event of the East Midlands
15 companies now face a nerve-wracking wait as the finalists for the seven Business Awards and mighty accolade of Leicestershire’s Business of the Year are announced. These winners in waiting will join a list of 124 companies who have taken to the stage since 1993 including Triumph Motorcycles, Next Plc, Big Communications and Pall-Ex.
Judges will now visit each of the finalists in their category to see how the businesses work day-to-day. The shortlisted companies are now eagerly awaiting the Gala Dinner on 24th April crossing their fingers that they might be the Leicestershire Business of the Year winner, sponsored by Business Link.
Commenting on the applicants this year Judge Roger Merchant from PKF observed ''We were pleased the credit crunch hasn't impacted the quality and diversity of entrants for this years' awards. The judges had a difficult challenge in choosing just three finalists for each category as there have been so many good applicants. Now, more than ever, applicants for the awards recognise the benefits of spotlighting their core values. Successful companies not only need to be innovative and entrepreneurial, staying ahead of their competition, but also have to continue to provide quality staff training; contribute to the community around them and invest for the future”.
700 local business people are expected at the gala dinner, for which there are only a limited amount of places remaining. Balcony places are available for those wanting to join in the celebratory atmosphere and find out which organisations are the rising stars of the local economy.

Regardless of size, age and sector increasing numbers are realising the invaluable benefits of the regional recognition, with past winners reporting increased new business as a direct result of their success.
Kevin Woodward, Managing Director of Bott Ltd, winner of 2008 Enterprise Through Innovation Award and first time entrant stated “This experience has made us realise that we should enter awards. The time spent on preparing the submission is well worth the effort and is of tremendous value. Believe me, if I had tried to budget for a company ‘away day’ that gave this much payback I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”
136 sponsors have invested over £1 million in recognising the achievements of the county, with many previous winners continuing their association with the Awards through sponsorship, recognising the value and wishing to encourage more companies to strive for that success. Ashfield In2focus, 2005’s Success Through People Award winner, this year decided to sponsor the Contribution to Community Award.
Over 600 people from the local business community will attend one of the biggest dates in the Leicestershire business calendar at the Gala Dinner on 24th April 2009, De Montfort Hall, Leicester. The Board and Peter Wheeler, the Awards Chairman, are delighted that Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham will be the Guest Speaker. As UK Trade & Investment Minister, he has travelled widely over the past two years, involved in promoting UK businesses to the International market. Digby has a unique gift in portraying these experiences in a clear and amusing manner and has been recently voted "After Dinner Speaker of the Year".
