Wood Pelleting Plant

Wood Pelleting: from waste streams to pellets to fuel - Images coutesy of CPM Europe
"Finding alternatives to carbon fuels to meet Government targets in tackling global climate change"
A feasibility study which will design, develop and cost a viable woodpelleting plant for North West Leicestershire as part of plans to reduce emissions caused by carbon fuels.
Organisation: The Sileby Village Trust Ltd.
Completion Date: 30/09/2004
Location
North West Leicestershire
Project Description
If successful the Feasibility Study will lead to the construction of a fully operating plant producing commercial volumes of non carbon fuel - Paul Atkinson, Managing Director, Atkinson Design
Background
The UK is the only large central or northern European economy without a woodpelleting industry. UK Government targets on the reduction of carobon dixoide emissions are to be seen in the context of global climate change and various international protocols on the environment. The reduction of carbon fuel consumption producing high levels of carbon dioxide emissions can only occur as sustainable non-carbon fuels emerge.
The future
The Woodpelleting Feasibility Study is to design, develop and cost a viable woodpelleting plant for North West Leicestershire. The proposed sites are adjacent to the emerging National Forest, a future significant source of raw materials adjacent to excellent road, rail and waterway distribution networks.
Outcomes
A feasibility study embracing the following key criteria:
- An appropriate and sustainable building type to accommodate such process activity with construction costings.
- A full specification and costing of a balanced and modular processing plant to take raw materials at one end and deliver high quality pellet fuels at the other.
- Environmental impact studies attached to a full project report and business plan.
