Project Description

The Media Centre in Film and TV Excellence provides a state-of-the-art facility which will enable media training and development opportunities, taking advantage of the expanding media sector, in particular the Asian film and media production industry.

Based on Ross Walk, in the Belgrave area of Leicester City, the centre provides a custom-built facility that will offer a superb learning environment, specifically tuned to give opportunities and skills to individuals already working within or wishing to move into the film and media production industry. The centre also provides accommodation for ITV Central and houses a film media production company. ITV Central News is already producing and transmitting local news from the centre.

This project supports the continuous development of the creative industries cluster within the East Midlands, and the priority sector of Digital Media, through matching interest in creative innovations and technology with cultural ownership and media development. It provides an enhanced programme of industry specific training as well as support for learner’s progression, through the college, into employment. This includes sector based job fairs, formal employer based steering committee input and employer designed training programmes.

The Centre is attracting significant local, national and international interest and the industry itself as a source of an appropriately skilled workforce that will support the growth of the industry in Leicester.

The Media Centre aims to support over 700 people develop their skills and assist over 300 people into employment. The Media Centre has received £995,000 investment from the LSEP.
