Project Description
This project will have a huge impact on the way people in the area live. The community spirit that has developed in the area serves as a great example to other communities as to what can be achieved by people working together and with other agencies - Jayne Somers, Community Regeneration Officer, Charnwood Borough Council
Background situation
Sidings Park is situated in a residential area close to a main railway station and busy industrial site in Loughborough. It is one of the main gateways into the town and has a high volume of traffic. The housing consists of mainly terraced property and there is very little green, play or community space.
Improving community life
This development includes a large park area, incorporating play areas for all age groups, large communal green and community art/garden areas. This is part of a larger scheme, which includes a bypass and home-zone scheme, all intended to give a community, which is pleasant and safe to live in and improve the gateway into the town.
Outcomes
- The process of consulting with the residents has resulted in a number of community achievements including the formation of a residents' association as well as a large number of events, including community parties such as the Golden Jubilee in 2002.
- There has also been improvement of the local area by residents themselves through large clean-up projects and entry in last year's 'Britain in Bloom' competition.
