Project Description

Cultural, language differences and the sheer scale of the potential India market can be intimidating to smaller companies trying to establish an initial ‘foot hold’. The India Trade Bureau was set up to assist businesses in developing trade with India. A native Gujarati-speaker is available to advise on translation and interpretation issues. The Trade Bureau is supported by Leicester City Council, Leicester Shire Economic Partnership, Business Link Leicestershire, UK Trade & Investment, Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Leicester Asian Business Association, Leicester Shire Promotions and Ethnic Food Forum.

Outcomes

A formal twinning agreement between Leicester and Rajkot was signed in December 1996, thus cementing the strong links, which many Leicester residents have both with Rajkot and the State of Gujarat.

Exporting
Working with UKTI, the India Trade Bureau offers a range of services aimed at helping SMEs to develop their export potentials into the Indian market. The services cover market research, trade missions, seminars, exhibitions and identifying potential business partners in India.

Importing
The India Trade Bureau can signpost import inquiries to its Indian partner organisations to follow up.

Inward Investment
Working with Leicester Shire Promotions, the India Trade Bureau encourages and supports Indian businesses and investors to locate in the sub-region.

Trade missions
The India Trade Bureau organises trade missions to India to encourage companies to export their goods and services with support from UKTI and Leicester Shire Economic Partnership

Inward missions
The India Trade Bureau hosts inward delegations from Gujarat/India who are keen to trade with British companies and to establish a business presence in the UK. Where possible the Trade Bureau will arrange networking events to facilitate their objectives.

Seminars
The India Trade Bureau hosts specialist seminars in partnership with UKTI.
