Hinckley Employment Land Study

"Discovering how much of the town's land is used for employment purposes after several years of economic decline"
No analysis has been made of which buildings/sites are still used to employ people in Hinckley. Some areas designated as employment land might not be used for that purpose anymore. The study will produce an accurate picture of the situation and provide a realistic assessment of redevelopment needs.
Organisation: Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council
Completion Date: 31/03/2004
Location
Hinckley, West Leicestershire
Project Description
Background
Hinckley is experiencing a rapid decline in traditional employment, particularly in the textile and engineering sectors. This has not only led to job losses but has also resulted in vacant premises, which can lead to an air of decline.
Many of these sites are identified as employment sites and no monitoring and measurement of these losses and changes has taken place, so there is no full and accurate picture of the impact these losses have had on the overall land supply situation.
Analysis of land use
The project appointed consultants to undertake a study to assess the level of employment uses lost over the past five years and measure the impact this has had on the economy.
It also included an assessment of the overall level of employment land available in the borough and relate this to the emerging Leicestershire Structure Plan and Hinckley & Bosworth Local Plan.
The study also planned to develop criteria against which proposals for redevelopment can be tested in order to assess the justification for further employment land loss.
Outcomes
Employment Land & Premises Study report, published May 2004.
