The project has identified a gap in service provision of enterprise development activity, which it is rectifying by training city council development officers to provide better support.

Project Description
Some aspects of the training were very interesting, particularly around learning from other organisations, where project trips were arranged for Nottingham where we visited co-ops, etc – Daxa Pancholi, Head of Economic Development, Leicester City Council
The current economic development officers of Leicester City Council have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in developing sustainable employment project, but not in enterprise-related projects. Therefore, we are building their capacity and expertise so they can better assist the development of sustainable enterprises with disadvantaged communities, prior to the engagement and involvement of other agencies who provide formal service.
Skills development
The community development officers need to develop business planning skills and marketing concepts to develop seeds of ideas, which may become future businesses for the individuals and the groups they work with on the ground. At first point of contact, it is important that the basics of business planning are tackled and skills consolidated so that all the preliminary work is completed on a business idea before it is presented to mainstream service providers.
Outcomes
12 Officers trained in enterprise development.
