"Leicestershire Broadband for All Campaign"

The Leicestershire Broadband for All campaign is a marketing and communications campaign to raise the awareness of broadband and to encourage as many peopole as possible to register and interest and thus persuade suppliers to provide broadband services across Leicestershire.

Project Description

We know of at least three companies that are thinking of moving out of the Market Harborough area because they cannot access to broadband - Brandon Moynihan, Rutland Online

Working with Leicestershire County Council, Leicester City Council, and the Rural Development Council, the LSEP leafleted all households and businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire that were not able to recieve broadband. The response was exceptional. We received 8,500 expressions of interest and 250 local people were recruited as broadband champions.

As a direct result of this campaign we were able to work in partnership with BT to ensure that 16 exchanges were enabled for broadband at least six months earlier than could have otherwise been expected.

Outcomes

Following the hard work of our partners and local champions not only have we managed to get broadband enabled in many of the remaining areas of the County and City but we have also helped to persaude BT to broadband enable all, bar three, of its telephone exchanges.
