Audit of Modern Foreign and Community Languages, and Business Needs Analysis
"Streamlining languages provision, supporting local businesses"
The audit will be carried out during 2004-05 with two principal aims: to map current language programmes amongst learning providers to establish replication and 'gaps' in provision; and to consult businesses on their language needs, with an overarching report linking the two.

Project Description
Languages are important for so many reasons. They help people's employment prospects and their knowledge of the world, supporting global citizenship by breaking down cultural barriers. In today's global economy we need a good knowledge of languages in this country to prosper - Stephen Twigg, MP
Background
There is a need to develop a collaborative approach across all key partners to planning the provision of languages across the city and county. At present there is no overall picture or data available to show either the needs or the current provision.
Audit aims
The aim is to develop an audit of the existing provision for teaching modern foreign languages and community languages to people across Leicester City and Leicestershire.
The project will also develop a needs analysis of modern foreign and community languages for the business sector.
The project will produce appropriate reports based on audit results across Leicester city and Leicestershire. These will be used for collaborative planning purposes.
Outcomes
Employment
1. To recruit and employ a project manager to develop and implement the audit and business needs analysis and then to produce a report based on the findings.
2. To recruit and employ an administration assistant to administer the project.

3. To undertake an audit of current modern foreign language provision in Leicester and Leicestershire.
4. To undertake a complementary needs analysis of local business language needs.
Results analysis
5. To analyse results and present data in an accessible and useful format.
6. To disseminate project outcomes to learning providers, stakeholders, students and funding bodies.
