Draft Economic Strategy Published
The development of a new Economic Strategy for Leicestershire is progressing with the publication of a draft document. It is now available as an electronic document (via the LSEP website) and anyone who wishes to comment has until 10th March 2008 to enable the final strategy to be published in April.
Leicester Shire Economic Partnership (LSEP) is guiding the process but it is a strategy for all partners in the sub-region. The strategy sets out an ambitious vision for Leicester and Leicestershire in 2020 and will inspire businesses, residents and investors.
The vision for 2020 is that:
“Leicestershire has a prosperous and dynamic economy, characterised by innovative businesses, enterprising and creative people, building attractive and sustainable communities.”
The consultation document can be downloaded from www.lsep.co.uk and anyone who wishes to comment further is asked to use the questions as a guide and email responses direct to caroline.b@lsep.co.uk. These papers have been distributed to those who have been involved in the consultation process but everyone is still welcome to pass comment.
For anyone who would prefer to comment by speaking direct to those developing the strategy there are two drop in events. These will be held at 11am on 6th March 2008 (Holywell Park, Loughborough) and 11am on 7th March (Charnwood Court, New Walk, Leicester). Lunch will be available during both meetings.
Rick Moore, Chairman of Leicester Shire Economic Partnership (LSEP), said, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop a long term economic vision for our future. I would urge the many people that have been involved to date to ensure they are happy with the vision we are presenting but equally welcome those who are able to look at it from a fresh perspective.”
Professor Shirley Pearce, Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University, has led this work as a member of the LSEP Board. She added, “This is another significant step as we now have a document to share and are a step closer to the completed strategy. We’re hoping many other partners, from the private, public and third sectors, will sign up to this strategy which is about improving prosperity in Leicestershire, through innovation and creativity.”
