Businesses Invited to Support FAME

Businesses are being invited to exhibit at De Montfort University’s flagship event for the creative industries, which is being endorsed by celebrities and scores of national and regional employers.

The annual FAME (Fashion, Arts, Media Eastmidlands) event attracts more than 1,000 visitors and this year will be held on Wednesday 21 March, with keynote speakers Toyah Willcox and Nick Pickard from Hollyoaks TV soap opera.

Visitors to the free event at the University in Leicester city centre will include students and members of the public from around the region who are looking for careers in the flourishing creative industries sector.

Creative employers from the BBC to Adobe, and Next to Avid, have already signed up and will be giving help and advice on how to get in to and get on in the industry.

As well as a networking lounge for businesses, there are presentation and seminar opportunities on subjects ranging from fashion to journalism, and web design to e-games.

Exhibitors are running various attractions including digital video editing and interactive installations at the event which is supported by LSEP and Creative Leicestershire.

Jacqueline Cawston, FAME organiser and De Montfort University’s Employer Development Manager, said: “This year FAME will be even more exciting, with a wider range of presentations from industry professionals and the chance to try your hand at video editing. FAME is a fantastic opportunity for students and people in the East Midlands to get the inside information about how to get in and get on in the creative industries. I urge anyone who wants to work in fashion, arts or the media to come along, absorb the information and advice on offer and enjoy the interactive events.”

Kishor Tailor, Chief Executive of LSEP said: “We support FAME because we recognise the contribution the creative sector makes to the well being of the Leicester Shire economy. LSEP wants to encourage people to attend the event so that they can network and identify opportunities for employment and enterprise within a fast growing sector. I’m confident this year’s event can build on the success of the first year and give even more people an insight into creative industries.”

Last year’s event featured a keynote speech from top designer Ben de Lisi and attracted record numbers of visitors.
