Investing in Leicester Shire's Potential

Potential for ICT in the Food and Drink sector to be explored

On Thursday 23 June 2005, local food and drink producers, tourism businesses and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) companies will meet at Highpoint Conference Centre in Leicester to discuss how technology can benefit their businesses.

The event is being organised by the Leicester Shire Promotions and the Leicester Shire Economic Partnership on behalf of the Leicestershire Food and Drink Tourism Network Community. The community and its website were launched to bring Leicester and Leicestershire food and drink businesses together and boost tourism from this key local industry. Catering alone is worth over £270 million per year to Leicestershire.

Nick Tennant, Finance and Operations Manager of East Midlands Incubation Network, and David Friesner, Head of Tourism Development at Leicester Shire Promotions, will be talking about what their organisations can do to help food and drink producers and processors in the city and county. Stephen Hallam of Dickinson and Morris will talk to attendees about how ICT has benefited his business, Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe.

Chief Executive of the Leicester Shire Economic Partnership Kishor Tailor said: “When we supported the virtual community we were confident one of the many benefits from our investment would be an increase in business for companies in the sub region. I’m sure this event at which companies will also share experiences with both the East Midlands Incubation Network and Leicester Shire Promotions would benefit those looking to increase their turnover.”

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions, commented: “Following the launch of the Leicestershire Food and Drink Tourism Network Community website earlier this year, we’ve had a great response from local companies with many signing up. This networking event will give people from some of Leicestershire’s key industries a chance to meet face to face to share best practice and really get the most from the opportunities that ICT investment can provide.”
